Edwards Small Mortuary announces with our deepest sympathy the passing of Alice Clara Childs on February 20, 2025. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
Mrs. Alice Clara Colbert Childs was born on October 12, 1937, in Houston County, Georgia. She grew up in Warner Robins, Georgia to the parentage of the late Ethel Lambert and Samuel Rucker. Alice acquired her education from Hunt High School in Peach County. She enjoyed singing, gardening, shopping and cooking.
Clara was a hardworking and dedicated Pastry Chef at Winn Dining Facility on RAFB for over 40 years. She was well known for her Hummingbird Cake and yeast rolls and received numerous plaques and awards for famous homemade desserts.
A true woman of God, Clara accepted Christ at an early age and became a faithful, humble, member of Furgeson Temple in Warner Robins, Georgia. She cared for the church in her heart as well as the physical church building. Her heart and passion for serving was real. She served as the mother of the church, cook, choir member, and missionary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willmon Childs; daughters: Alice Pilgrim and Johnnie Smith; and her mother Ethel Lambert.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving children: Vanessa (David) Hill, Warner Robins, GA; Cynthia (Melvin) Lindsey, Kathleen, GA; Carl Rumph, Fort Valley, GA; Wanda, Pamela, Patriece all of Warner Robins, GA; sister, Sandra Rucker, Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Lillie Childs (Kenneth) Allen, Warner Robins, GA; son-in-law, Lewis Edward Pilgrim, Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren: Danielle, Keondra, Ashley, Edwin IV, Alex, David, and Carmen; devoted friends: Laura Turner and Patricia Newman; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; friends, colleagues and church family.
