Mother Constance McGhee was born on September 27, 1935 to the late Eugene and Rosabelle Ivory McClendon in Macon County, Georgia. She was one of eight children and was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. All her life, she has been a very competitive person. She simply loved to work with her hands. Even as a child, it was the highlight thrill of her day to show her brothers she could work harder and produce more than them.
Mother Constance graduated from public school in Crawford County. She met her husband, Lucious McGhee, who preceded her in death in 2014. At the age of 22, they married on July 21, 1958. The Lord blessed them with four children. For years, she owned her own business as a seamstress. She took great pride in the quality of the clothes she sewed for both the public and for her children. She was also employed at Dan River (The Bibb Company) for 25 years. From Dan River, she was recognized for her excellence and quality of work. She received numerous awards for Employee of the Month and Years of Appreciation.
Mother Constance accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in July, 1983 at the Fort Valley Pentecostal Church. The ministry has presented her with many Awards of Appreciation for her outstanding and faithful support. She was President of the Usher’s Staff, prepared Communion Service, provided inside maintenance of the church, and assisted the Pastor with basic needs. She was very hands on and eager to support the ministry. Literally, whatsoever her hands found to do, she did it with all her might. It had to meet her standards. It had to be “RIGHT!” This was her personality in the church, at home, and on her job.
The Lord blessed our mother with 90 years of life. On December 10, 2025, the Lord stretched out his hands and welcomed her home wrapping her gently in his arms.
Mother Constance leaves to remember her life: Four children: Elaine Hughes, Wanda (Wilbert) Major, Terry (Audrey) McGhee, and Pamela (Sanford) Deshazer. One stepson: George (Joy) Smith and one sister: Annie Maude McClendon. Sister--in-Laws: Edith Howell, Renee (Howard) McCord, Dorothy McGhee, and Barbara Jean McGhee.
