Eugene Canion

Mr. Eugene Canion, aged 65, was born on May 8, 1960, to Mr. Tom and Annie L. Canion in Kathleen, Houston County, Georgia.

Gene attended public schools in Houston County and joined Meditation Prayer Tower at a young age under the guidance of his mother, Overseer Annie L. Canion.

Affectionately called "Fat" by some family and friends, Gene worked with Staffing Roofing and White Diamond. He enjoyed cooking, grilling, and fishing, and was well-liked throughout his community.

In 2009, he moved to Fort Valley. On June 17, 2011, he married Debora A. Jones.

On the morning of January 22, 2026, Gene passed away. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Tom & Annie Canion; his daughter, Mevlena Canion; brothers Thomas Canion, Charles Canion, Anthony Smith; and stepson, Kimbro Jones.

Cherishing his memory are his wife of 15 years, Debora A. Jones-Canion; two stepsons, George Scott and Keytrick Jones of Fort Valley; a stepdaughter, Samiah (Lorenzo) Shine of Dexter, GA; eight grandchildren: Jaylon Canion-Smith of Warner Robins, GA; Madison Scott, Ethan Carter, Kaydence Thorpe, Noah Thorpe, Knova Shine, Kase Shine, and Knowledge Shine; three sisters: Fannie Grant, Mellow Comb (Kathleen, GA), Ruth (Jerry) Barkley (Powder Springs, GA); a sister whom he considered like his own, Becky Boaders (Ellenwood, GA); brother-in-law Troy (Karen) Jones (Fort Valley); two devoted nieces, Lukina Johnson and LuTina Bunkley; a close friend, Jerry Casey; and many other relatives and friends including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
