Edwards Small Mortuary announces with our deepest sympathies the passing of Gary Wayne Simmons on May 3. 2025. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
Gary Wayne Simmons, affectionately known as Wanky, was born September 12,1955, in Fort Valley, Georgia, to the late Milton Simmons, Sr. and Hattie Ruth Fluellen Simmons.
Six siblings preceded him in death: Graylin D. Simmons, Sylvia Simmons Williams, Lawona K. Simmons Floyd, Vinson P. Simmons, Milton Simmons, Jr., and Tommie Mills.
As a child, Gary grew up in the Saint Peter AME Church. He attended Hunt Elementary School and Peach County High School. Upon the completion of high school, Gary enlisted into the United States Marine Corps with a desire to serve his country and was stationed in Japan. He incurred a service-connected disability while serving in the corps and was honorably discharged. Gary returned to Fort Valley, Georgia, attended Fort Valley State College (University) and received a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 1986. On Saturday, May 3, 2025, Gary Wayne Simmons was called home for eternal rest.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Holli Hogan of Smyrna, Tennessee; his brother, Kelvin (Audrey) Simmons of Gainesville, Georgia; a special uncle, Eugene Fluellen, Jr. of Fort Valley, Georgia; a special and only nephew, Milton Dennard (Corliss) Simmons of Hephzibah, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Lynn Simmons of Macon, Georgia, and Barbara Mills of Fort Valley, Georgia; and a host of nieces, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
