Edwards Small Mortuary announces with our deepest sympathies the passing of Gladys Green on June 1, 2025. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
Gladys Dawson Green was born April 3, 1931, to the late Otis Dawson Sr. and Eliza Dawson in Fort Valley, Georgia. She attended the public schools of Peach County, Georgia. Gladys was joined in holy matrimony with the late Willie James Green, Jr.
She worked at Pearson Basket Mills for almost 15 years and then at Bassett Furniture Company where she retired after 25 years of faithful service. When Gladys wasn’t at work, she was spending time with family, watching her stories, working in the yard, cooking, or baking. She was known for her amazing potato salad and sweet potato pies. Gladys was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church for over 50 years. She found joy in listening to gospel music, especially the music of James Cleveland and Pastor Shirley Caesar.
Gladys transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, June 1st. Her final days on earth were spent at home surrounded by family and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents Otis Dawson Sr. and Eliza Dawson; her husband Willie James Green, Jr.; and her brothers: Otis Dawson, Jr., Brady Dawson, Archie Dawson, Ahie Dawson, John Dawson & Jimmy Tucker.
Gladys was the matriarch of her family and her legacy of love will be carried on in the hearts of her loving daughter, Dr. Sylvia Green; two beloved sons Ricky Joe Dawson (Jeanette) and Daron Dawson (Stephanie); Grandchildren– Shureka Dawson, Travinski Hill, Chanelle McGhee, Destiny Dawson, Vianya Dawson, Trevorion Dawson, Kayla Dawson, Kai Dawson; Great grandchildren– Eboni Harris, Braven Harris, Keshun Hill, Taylor Goodman, Zikhyree Hill, Dani Mobley; Great-great grandchildren– Cambryn Ryan Amica, Chaslyn Kelise Ross, Kaylani Hill, Kaiva Hill; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Gladys was well-loved and her 94 years on this earth were filled with joy. Although we know she is now with the Lord, Gladys will be deeply missed in the lives and hearts of those she touched.
