Edwards Small Mortuary announces with our deepest sympathies the passing of Dr. Harry L. Ross on May 16, 2025. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
Psalm 139:14 "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
Marvellous are thy works; And that my soul knoweth right well."
And so it was:
On April 20, 1947, parents, Mrs. Pinkie Lee Ross and Mr. Willie James Ross, welcomed Harry Lee Ross into the family.
Harry entered this world as the 3rd child of this family. He was the middle child behind Shirley and Robert and before Martha and Barbara. Precocious, intellectual,
not even the wheels on his bicycle when he was intent on doing wheelies against his parents' wishes. However, when a serious accident occurred all his siblings and cousins came together and prayed for him. Life was never dull with him around.
As Harry grew up and began school, Hunt Elementary and Hunt High School were his educational trademarks. He kept Mrs. Barnett, his teacher, and Mr. Bryant, his principal, busy with his mother being just a call or visit away at the elementary school. Dennis the Menace couldn't hold a candle to him.
Upon graduation from Hunt High, Harry entered Fort Valley State College (Univ.) where he excelled as a Political Science major. He continued his educational endeavors and graduated with a master's degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
Having been raised in a Christian environment, Harry joined Central Union Baptist Church in Fort Valley and later Greenforest Community Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. Being faith based, Harry pursued and completed studies in Ministry at the F. C.
Bozeman School of Ministry, Montgomery, Alabama where he received his Honorary Doctor of Christian Humanities.
At the height of Harry's career, he was a nationally recognized Political Pollster, Consultant, Gospel Promoter, Political Analyst, Behavioral Scientist specializing in Family and Domestic Violence, and Teenage Abuse and Violence. Harry traveled and worked with Dr. Jesse Jackson, Martin Luther King, III, Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, U.S. Senator Wyche Fowler, and U.S. Congressman John Lewis, just to name a few.
Harry capitalized on his expertise by developing "The Ross Report," a compilation of day-to-day news.
Not to have his life derailed when kidney problems arose, in 2017 Harry sought and later received a kidney transplant. His battle with kidney disease continued until his demise.
Harry always had a supportive family around, and none greater than his wife, Elizabeth Washington Ross. Liz was resolute and extremely supportive of all his endeavors. She was with him every step of the way.
Cherishing his memoires besides Liz are his siblings, Robert Ross (Alice), Freddie Gibson; sisters, Martha Ross-Simmons, and Barbara Davis; his dedicated and beloved nephews Demetrius Davis (Nika) and Justen Early (Renee); beloved nieces, Alice Leggett, Dwalla Sackey and Mikaela Ross-Simmons; a trusted cousin and mentor, Ulysses Oates; aunts, Yvonne Ross and Ruby Ross, and numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and business acquaintances. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Benjamin Ross, and a sister, Shirley Redding.
