Jimmie L. Rumph

Mr. Jimmie Lee Rumph, age 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Valley, Georgia. Affectionately known as “Jimmie Lee,” he was born on June 25, 1931, in Fort Valley, Georgia, to the late Andrew and Anna Goss Rumph.

Jimmie Lee attended the Peach County School System but left at an early age to help support his family, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and dedication from a young age. He later became a longtime employee of Bassett Furniture, where he worked faithfully until retirement. During those years, he was known for his kindness and generosity, often transporting fellow employees from the Fort Valley area to and from work.

He had a deep love of baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Jimmie Lee took great joy in sharing his passion for the game with others. He also had a zest for life that shined through his love for dancing, always finding happiness in music and movement among family and friends.

Jimmie Lee lived a long and fulfilling life rooted in love, faith, and community. His selfless devotion to his family was a true reflection of the values he carried throughout his life. He was a loving, easygoing man who cherished his family deeply. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and siblings were the center of his world, and he often spoke of them with great pride and affection.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty years, Helen Thomas Rumph; his daughter, Judy Johnson; his sisters, Anna Howell, Shellene Jackson, and Catherine Ezell; and his brothers, Charles King, Benny Rumph, Andrew Rumph, and Marvin Rumph. Despite these losses, Jimmie Lee’s enduring spirit continued to bring joy to those around him.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted children: Barbara Mills, Rosa Clark (Fletcher), Evelyn Rumph, Sherry Rumph, and Kerry Rumph, all of Fort Valley, Georgia; Verlene Rumph of Roberta, Georgia; Juanita Brown of Centerville, Georgia; and Dita Williams (Ronnie) of Perry, Georgia. His legacy lives on through his 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, who will forever treasure the love and memories he shared with them.

Surviving siblings Stella Mae Tucker, Vera Jackson, Mary Williams, Celestine Rumph, Elaine Rumph, Bobby (Shirley) Rumph, Joseph (Penny) Rumph, Tommy Rumph, and James Rumph.

To those who knew him best, Jimmie Lee was not only a devoted father but also a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather whose warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on every heart he touched.
