Edwards Small Mortuary announces with our deepest sympathy the passing of John Wesley Lindsey on July 11, 2024. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
Mr. John Wesley Lindsey Sr. was born July 31, 1950 to the late Willie Lee Lindsey Jr and the late Ora Bell Lindsey. He is preceded in death by the love of his life Sherrill Elaine Lindsey, brothers: Charles Lindsey, Napoleon Lindsey and Larry Lindsey & sisters: Gloria Cobb and Mildred Lindsey.
John dedicated his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Fort Valley, GA where he was a devoted deacon and Sunday school teacher until his health started to decline.
John attended Peach County public schools in Fort Valley, Georgia and was a high school graduate of Henry A. Hunt High School. He also received a B.A in Social Work from Fort Valley State College in 1988. He worked in the field of Social Work for many years; but everyone that knew him, recognized that his passion was farming. He worked for The Fort Valley State University’s “Life on the Farm” program and retired in 2012; but came back to work part-time until 2019.
John learned the value of hard work and perseverance very young. His passion for agriculture was evident in everything he did, from planting crops to raising livestock. Throughout his life, he touched the lives of many in the community with his generosity, kindness, and willingness to lend a hand. He was always eager to share his knowledge and expertise with others, and his farm was a place of learning and inspiration for all who visited.
He leaves to cherish his memory four children: Christina L. Lindsey, John W. Lindsey Jr (Kimberly), Willie L. Lindsey III (Renata), Tracey D. Johnson (Joey); a niece he’s raised as his own, Collette M. Releford; two siblings: Nancy L. Lindsey, David Lindsey (Eula); nine grandchildren: Deja Lindsey, Kamea Lindsey, John Lindsey III, Jalen Lindsey, Destiny Lindsey, Jalexia Lindsey, Ryan Johnson, Aubrielle Johnson, and Ka’Lyn Lindsey; two great grandchildren: Kamora Tucker and Kiion Tucker; a sister-in-law, Kathy Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and dear friends.
