Julius “Bootsy” Woodson was born on June 18, 1937, in Crawford County, to the late Bo Cliett and Catherine Woodson Little. Julius was reared by his mother and stepfather, Will Little. He was the third of nine children and was raised in a large, close-knit family where the values of faith, hard work, and perseverance were deeply rooted. Growing up in Crawford County helped shape the strong character, resilience, and wisdom that would define his life and influence generations to come. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and eight siblings: Cornelious Wootson, Johnnie Wootson, Earl Wootson, Jerry Little, Jimmy Cliett, Brenda Cliett, Edward Cliett, and Thomas Cliett. Though they have gone before him, their memories remained close to his heart, and the bond they shared as family was a lasting source of strength and love throughout his life.
At an early age, Julius accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at Gordon Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he remained a faithful and devoted member until his passing. His faith was the foundation of his life and guided him in his walk, his service, and his love for others. Julius found great joy in attending worship services, participating in church activities, and serving wherever he was needed. Over the years, he faithfully served as Sunday School Superintendent and as a Steward, demonstrating his commitment to the growth and strength of the church. Julius had a deep love for God’s Word and spent much of his time reading and reflecting on the Scriptures. He also found joy in sharing family history and wisdom, ensuring that the stories and lessons of past generations would continue to live on. Whether in fellowship with his church family or in the presence of his loved ones.
Julius was educated in the public schools of Crawford County, where he developed the strong work ethic and values that would guide him throughout his life. As a dedicated and hardworking provider, Julius spent many years employed with Blue Bird Corporation and Dan River Inc. (formerly The Bibb Company) in Fort Valley, faithfully serving until his retirement. His commitment to hard work and providing for his family was evident in all that he did. Even after retirement, Julius remained active and industrious, choosing to continue working for several more years at Food Depot because he enjoyed the opportunity to serve others and his community.
As the patriarch of his family, Julius built a lasting legacy of love, wisdom, and strength that will continue to guide generations to come. He was a man of conviction, known for his straightforward nature, honest counsel, and unwavering principles. His words carried wisdom, his presence brought strength, and his love for his family was evident in all that he did. Julius devoted himself to being a faithful husband, a loving father, a caring brother, a supportive uncle, a proud grandfather, and a loyal friend. The values he instilled, the lessons he shared, and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Julius leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Tommie Wynn Woodson of Fort Valley, whose love, and companionship stood as a testament to their enduring bond. He also leaves his beloved and cherished children: Perdia Davis (Timothy) of Stockbridge; Yvette Washington (Andre’) of Dunwoody; Julian Woodson (Tawanna) of McDonough; Leonardo Dunn (Karen) and Phalba White, both of Macon, who will continue to carry forward his love, wisdom, and legacy. He leaves behind eight loving grandchildren, fifteen treasured great-grandchildren, who brought him great pride and joy. Julius is also survived by his loving siblings: Willie B. Little (Louise), Billy Little (Debra), Sanders Little, and Julia Little, all of Fort Valley; Michael Cliett (Delma) of Colorado Springs; and Shirlene Chambers (Clarence) of Alabama; his sisters-in-law, Carrie Wootson, Janet Wootson, and Joyce Cliett; a devoted cousin, Hal Lowman (Lavonne) of Fort Valley; a loyal extended family, the Daniels of Lee Pope in Fort Valley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, dear friends, and his beloved church family at Gordon Chapel A.M.E. Church, all of whom will forever cherish the memories and legacy he leaves behind.
