Mary Alice Everett Bottom, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, servant, and faithful woman of God, was born on March 8, 1949, to the late Johnnie B. Everett, Sr. and Letha Mae Wright. She was lovingly raised by her beloved great-grandmother, Jody Bell Alexander, whose love, guidance, wisdom, and nurturing presence helped shape the woman Mary Alice would become. The values instilled in her by her family remained evident throughout her life in the way she loved others, served her community, cared for her family, and faithfully served God.
Mary Alice received her education through the public schools of Macon County and was a proud graduate of the historic D. F. Douglass High School of Montezuma, Georgia, in May 1967. Her education and upbringing instilled in her a deep appreciation for her community and a commitment to serving others.
On August 15, 1967, Mary Alice married her high school sweetheart, Fred C. Bottom, the love of her life and her devoted husband and companion. Together, they built a life grounded in love, family, faith, and commitment. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to enduring love, companionship, and devotion. For many years, Mary Alice faithfully served the people of Macon County as Assistant Librarian at the Montezuma Public Library, where she dedicated herself to helping children, families, students, and community members with kindness, patience, and genuine care. She was known for her loyalty, dependability, and willingness to serve, treating everyone with dignity and respect. Her years of dedicated service left a lasting impression on generations of library patrons and reflected her deep love for her community. Upon her retirement, she left behind a legacy of service, kindness, and devotion to the people of Macon County.
To know Mary Alice was to know someone who valued people. She believed in family, community, faith, and service. Whether she was helping someone at the library, teaching a Sunday School lesson, serving as a Deaconess, supporting the Youth Department, encouraging her children, spending time with her grandsons, or simply sharing a conversation with someone she loved, she gave people her genuine attention and care.
Her earthly journey may have come to an end, but the legacy she leaves behind is everlasting. Her influence will continue through her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, church family, friends, former colleagues, and the many citizens of Macon County whose lives she touched throughout the years.
Mary Alice will be remembered for her loving heart, quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, dedication to her community, devotion to her family, commitment to her church, and the joy she found in being a mother and grandmother.
She leaves behind memories that cannot be replaced and a legacy that cannot be forgotten. The love she gave, the lessons she taught, the lives she touched, and the service she rendered will continue to speak long after her departure from this earthly life.
Though we mourn her absence, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the many blessings she brought to those fortunate enough to know and love her.
Mary Alice Everett Bottom has completed her earthly assignment. She served her family, her church, and her community with faithfulness and love. Now, she rests from her labor.
“Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
