Mary Brown

Mrs. Mary Ruby Brown was born on February 19, 1943 to Bessie Hood Goss and Samuel Goss in Fort Valley, Georgia. Mary Ruby, as she was affectionately called was the youngest of three.
Mary Ruby was a 1961 graduate of H. A. Hunt High School. Shortly after high school, she met and married Eddie Lee Brown. They were married in October 1961 and spent 42 years together until Mr. Brown’s death in July of 2003.

Mary Ruby worked Jeff Carter’s cleaners in downtown Fort Valley (later changed to One Hour and Fabri Care Cleaning Service) for many years. She loved her job there because it gave her the chance to meet people and to help citizens of Fort Valley in many others areas outside of the cleaners.
Mary Ruby joined Mt. Olive CME at a young age and became a servant for the Lord. She became a stewardess, a trustee, and sang in the Senior Choir and worked tirelessly until her health began to fail her.

Mary Ruby was a people-person and never met a stranger. She would always find a way to connect with people and enjoyed the company she found herself around. Because she loved socializing, before her health failed, she participated often at the Seniors Citizens Center of Fort Valley where she did arts and crafts, made calls to those under the weather, and other activities the center provided.
Mary Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and spouse: Samuel Goss, Jessie Goss, and Eddie Lee Brown.

Mary Ruby is survived by two daughters: Janette (Kenneth) Ezell and Jackie M. Brown; three grandchildren: Edward Brown (Chandra) and Jasmine Brown of Warner Robins, and Samuel Brown of Fort Valley; three great-grandchildren, Xavian Brown, Caylee Brown, and Marlee Jordan Chambers; two sister in laws: Betty Brown and Lillian Rucker, and four brother-in-laws: George Brown, Larry Brown, Williard Brown and William Harris, all of Fort Valley, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
