Ronnie Sanders, 67, entered eternal rest on Monday, March 2, 2026.
Ronnie Sanders, affectionately known as “Ship”, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother uncle and friend. He was born on March 16, 1958, in Fort Valley, Georgia to the late Ordell and Ola Mae Sanders.
From a young age he carried a gentle spirit, an infectious smile and a quiet strength that would define his path. Ronnie’s early years were marked by his love for laughter and the unwavering support of his family, paving the way for the remarkable man he would become.
Ronnie received his education in the public school system of Peach County where he played football and developed many friendships that lasted his entire lifetime. He proudly graduated in 1976.
After completing his education, Ronnie pursued further studies at Fort Valley State College. Drawn by a fascination with the horizon and the sea, he answered the call to service and enlisted in the United States Navy. His tenure in the Navy offered him the opportunity to explore the far corners of the globe while proudly defending his country.
Following his honorable discharge, Ronnie transitioned his love for the open road into a lifelong career in the trucking industry. A skilled and reliable driver, he worked with several carriers over the decades, most recently with South First Carrier, where he celebrated his well-deserved retirement in 2025.
Ronnie was genuinely loved by all people. He had a radiance that drew people to him. Known for his kindness and generosity, Ronnie touched countless lives with compassion, loyalty, and wisdom. His spirit, courage and love will forever be etched into the hearts of those who knew him. Thank God for allowing him to be a part of our lives, as he touched us individually and collectively.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Ordell and Ola Mae Sanders; two sisters, Luverne Hill and Joyce Ann Morris; a brother-in-law, Herman Mathis.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a wife of almost 8 years, Sherry Sanders; Children, David (Sushmitha) Sanders, Alycia Sanders, Veronica Robinson, Cedric Harris; Grandchildren, Tierra Sanders, Myka Robinson, Yaashya Harris, Ava Harris and a precious granddaughter, Zarina, soon to be welcomed into the family; Sisters, Earnestine Sanders and Idella Mathis; Brother-in-law, Oscar Hill; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, his many other loving family members and friends; lasting friendships, Lorraine Cobb, Matthew Jackson, Karen Talton Turner, and the late Leonard Cobb; and the family beloved dog, Flash.
Though Ronnie’s earthly journey has ended, his legacy of love, kindness, and strength will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
