Roscell Lane, 75, of Fort Valley, Georgia, peacefully departed this life on September 11, 2026. He was born in Cordele, Georgia, to the late Vera M. Lane and Samuel R. West.
Roscell lived a life marked by faith, family, hard work, service, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He was a man of many gifts and interests—artistic, intellectual, patient, focused, dependable, hardworking, and fiercely independent. He devoted his life to God, his family, and to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Throughout his community, Roscell was known and deeply loved. Professionally, he was especially recognized for his work as a Conference Facilitator at Fort Valley State University, where his presence and service allowed him to connect with and impact countless people throughout the years. He was also a deeply cherished barber. For Roscell, barbering was about much more than cutting hair. His chair became a place for conversation, wisdom, laughter, encouragement, and sometimes a good lecture. Many entered his life as clients and left knowing they had gained a friend, mentor, or father figure.
Roscell possessed a creative spirit and loved photography. He had enough plants to start his own shop and was rarely far from a project that allowed him to work with his hands. Teaching and mentoring came naturally to him, and he had a special love for children. Whether they were biologically his or not, Roscell had a way of making children feel as though they belonged to him. His heart had room for them all.
Those who knew “Roc” knew that he was a man of his word. He was an exceptional provider and protector who believed in accountability, honesty, sacrifice, and hard work. He could make you laugh and lecture you in the very same conversation. His calm demeanor, unmistakable walk, wisdom, humor, and steady presence made him unforgettable.
Among the many relationships Roscell treasured was his lifelong friendship with Mr. Gregory Lewis. Gregory’s devotion to Roscell throughout his life, and especially during his final chapter, was a profound testament to the meaning of true friendship. His care, loyalty, and presence until Roscell’s final moments reflected a bond that words can scarcely describe.
Roscell leaves to cherish his memory his three children, Mr. Brian Lockett, Mr. Bradley Lane, and Ms. April Lane; a host of biological grandchildren; countless children whom he loved, mentored, guided, and embraced as his own; his lifelong best friend, Mr. Gregory Lewis; and a multitude of relatives, friends, former colleagues, mentees, clients, and community members whose lives are richer because he was a part of them
