Shirley Dolores Hardison

Shirley Dolores Harrison, a native of Roselle, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, at the age of 88. She made Fort Valley, Georgia her home in 1995, becoming a cherished member of the community for the past three decades.

A graduate of Abraham Clark High School in Roselle, Shirley began dating the love of her life, Douglas Hardison, shortly after graduation. The two married in 1960 and went on to share many years together, traveling often as Douglas pursued his passions for boating and golf. Shirley's grace and poise were unmistakable- tall and beautiful, she carried herself like a model. She was known for her empathy, her calm presence, and her gift for listening deeply to others.

Shirley dedicated her career to the United States Postal Service, where she worked as a Postal Clerk until her retirement. A woman of faith and devotion, she was an active member of Saint Peter AME Church, where she served faithfully as an usher for many years. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and she was a talented cook who hosted annual barbecues for friends and family. She loved entertaining, and her gatherings were a source of warmth, laughter, and togetherness for those she held dear.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Hardison; her mother, Mary Elizabeth Fortune; her father, Clifton Bradley; her brothers, Donald Stanley, William David Fortune, Jr., Clifton James Bradley, Jr., and John Bradley; and her sister, Debra Sarku.

Shirley is survived by her son, Keith Hardison; her grandchildren, Jalisa,, and Cashmir; and her great-grandchildren, Declan and Savannah.

She is also survived by her stepson, Douglas Hardison, Jr.; her sisters, Carolyn Howard, Gwendolyn LeGrand, Tawanda Brandon, and Wendy Hopkins; her brothers, Drew White and James Moore Sr.; and a host of extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Shirley will be remembered for her inner and outer beauty, her gentle strength, and the love she poured into her family, friends, and community. Her presence will be deeply missed, and her legacy will be felt for generations to come.
