Steve Sturn was born February 4, 1953, in Houston County, Georgia, to the late Tommie Lee and Julia B. Sturn. He was affectionately known as “Captain Hill.”
Steve attended Peach County High School in Fort Valley, Georgia, where he met his high school sweetheart, FlorineSmith. Their love story began as young hearts and continued throughout their lives. Steve and Florine were united in holy matrimony on June 30, 1973. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to enduring love, commitment, and devotion, standing the test of time for more than 53 years.
Steve briefly enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country, receiving an honorable discharge. He was a highly skilled master carpenter whose craftsmanship was admired throughout Middle Georgia and beyond. His work took him to various places across the country, where he proudly displayed the talent and expertise he had developed through his craft.
Steve was a devoted member of St. Louis Christian Methodist Church, where he served faithfully until his health no longer allowed him to do so.
Steve had a great love for music and dancing. In his younger years, he introduced his nieces to the soulful sounds of Marvin Gaye, creating cherished memories they would carry with them for years to come. In his later years, gospel artist Lee Williams became one of his favorites.
Steve was also a devoted fan of the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers and enjoyed collecting fitted caps and team shirts. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—a good cup of coffee and a cold Coke.
Above all, Steve loved his family. He affectionately spoiled all of his nieces and nephews, and they spoiled him in return. He cherished the time spent with those he loved and took great pride in the relationships and memories they shared. His presence, personality, craftsmanship, love of music, and the memories he created with his family will forever remain a part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Steve Sturn lived a life filled with love, hard work, faith, family, and purpose. His journey on earth has come to an end, but the love he gave and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
