Washington Marshall, Jr.

Washington Marshall, Jr., 90, of Fort Valley, GA, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia.

 Affectionately known as “Dub”, Washington was born on April 7, 1935 in Macon County, Georgia. He was the fourth of twelve children born to the union of Washington Marshall, Sr. and Flora Bell Marshall. HIs parents and all of his siblings preceded him in death.

At an early age, he confessed his love for Christ at St. John’s Baptist Church in Fort Valley, GA. He was later confirmed at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Fort Valley, GA, where he remained a member until his death.

Washington attended the Fort Valley Training School and graduated from H. A. Hunt High School in 1953. He went on to attend Fort Valley State College where he was a football and track and field standout. In 1957, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served for four honorable years.

Washington Marshall, Jr. married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Jacobs on July 13, 1959. To this union three children were born. His son, Gerald Bernard Marshall, Sr., preceded him in death on September 30, 1999. After 65 years of marriage, his wife, Carolyn, also preceded him in death on December 30, 2024.

Washington worked at Robins Air Force Base, Warner Robins, Georgia in the Avionics Division as a electronics technician. After years of dedicated service he retired in 1990.

After his retirement, he spent most of his time being a doting Papa to the apple of his eye, granddaughter, Brittany Alexis Talbott. He traveled to many Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority conventions with his wife. His final year was spent at Serenity Empire Assisted Living (Formerly Brookside Senior Living) where he resided prior to his death. He was loved by the staff and spent many evenings with his granddaughter, Brittany dining on meals from one of his favorite restaurants, Piccadilly in Tucker, GA.

Remaining to cherish Washington’s memory are, his daughters, Cheryl Lynn Talbott of Sandersville, GA and Patrice Yvette Marshall (Shannon) of Stone Mountain, GA, two granddaughters, Brittany Alexis Talbott and Nivea Marie Rodney both of Stone Mountain, GA, a grandson, Gerald Bernard Marshall, Jr, of Aston, PA, Sister, Mary Green of Fort Valley, GA, Sisters in law, Carolyn D. Marshall and Doris N. Marshall, of Fort Valley, GA, Annie L. Marshall of Byron, GA, Melvenia Marshall of Bogalusa, LA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
